Laser Therapy for Pets
A new veterinary treatment comes to Middle TN
BY RACHEL JOINER
If I told you that your pet’s ear infection, arthritis, dermatitis and post surgical pain could all be soothed with the help of a laser, you might tell me in turn to lay off the summer margaritas. However, modern science continues to produce amazing new technologies for treating the problems that ail our four-legged friends, and the laser has indeed come to the rescue.
Developed by Dr. Brian Pryor, a leading scientist in laser and light technology and the CEO of LiteCure, LLC, the new Companion Therapy Laser® CTS™ system incorporates revolutionary 3D animation and SmartCoat® technology “to improve clinical outcomes and consistency of care”. The high-power, 12-watt laser penetrates deep into the body’s cells and tissue, accelerating the healing process while reducing pain and inflammation. The SmartCoat® technology’s animated and interactive touch screen assists veterinarians in educating pet guardians and allows you to watch the benefits of the entire process.
Dr. Tammy Perkins at Hillsboro Animal Hospital in Nashville has been using the system to treat a variety of medical issues. “We received the machine in March, and we’ve been using the laser on lick granulomas,” she says. “It has helped large leg wounds that other treatments have failed to resolve.” The only class IV laser in Middle Tennessee, it is used to help treat everything from arthritis and joint disease and postoperative pain to dermatitis and wound care.
